Why can’t I move my hard drive from one ps3 to another?
My old ps3 died after just over three years of use, so I just picked up a new ps3 slim. It’s pretty much the same thing, just smaller. My old PS3 got the YLOD. I tried replacing the fan and putting new thermal compound on it but it didn’t work. I may attempt to reflow the solder at some point, but I don’t have a heat gun. What’s crazy about this is I lost all of my data off the old ps3. I don’t know why, but for some reason you can’t just move the hard drive from one ps3 to another and “activate it”. Sony really should have thought that one through. Anyway so instead of just moving the hard drive I’m downloading all of my content again. At least I have a working ps3. I just hope this one lasts longer than the first one!
